Reliance on internet revealed by study
Baku, July 28 (AZERTAC). A study that made internet users relinquish use of the world wide web for 24 hours has released some extraordinary results, with some users stating they were “upset” at the thought of no internet.
Health News reports that Intersperience, an international consumer research organisation, conducted a study into the addictive nature of the internet by recruiting 1,000 18 - 65-year-olds from the UK. Unsurprisingly, younger participants had a harder time pulling themselves away from the net than their over-50 counterparts, but the real shock comes after 53 per cent admitted being upset when denied access to the internet. In addition, 40 per cent claimed they were lonely when they couldn`t communicate to their friends through the various social media networks available on the net.
This shows the raw power that digital marketing companies have when it comes to advertising on the internet. The majority of people in the UK spend time on the internet, on social media networks or check their e-mails every single day; highlighting the number of channels that businesses can use to reach their target market.
Paul Hudson, chief executive of Intersperience, commented on the findings of the study to intersperience.com: “[The way we] engage with technology has occurred faster than many of us had anticipated. This has profound implications for society both from a personal and commercial perspective.”
