AZERBAIJANI FM MEETS WITH US DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF DEFENSE FOR EUROPE & NATO
Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov Wednesday met with the delegation headed by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Europe & NATO Daniel Fata.
He said his visit to Azerbaijan aims to inspect the state of US-Azerbaijan strategic partnership, the country’s defense reforms and strategic plans for future.
Mr. Fata highly valued Azerbaijan’s role as a stable actor and main energy supplier in region, stressing that the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh is a threat to regional security.
E. Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan would continue its strategic partnership with the U.S., emphasizing the necessity of the United States’ active involvement in the stability of region.
Speaking of the development process in Azerbaijan, the Minister noted reforms are underway not only in defense, but also in economic, education and other spheres in the country.
The meeting also focused on Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation, increasing number of Azeri peacemakers in Afghanistan, the country’s role in energy security and other issues.
