Caucasian Muslims leader Pashazade attends meeting of CIS Inter-Religious Council Presidium in Yerevan
Baku, November 30 (AZERTAC).Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, has attended a meeting of CIS Inter-Religious Council`s Presidium in Yerevan.
Founded in 2002, the Council is co-chaired by Russian Patriarkh Kirill and Allahshukur Pashazade.
Addressing the event, Pashazade highlighted Azerbaijan`s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“It is very important to continue efforts - both on the regional and international levels - towards finding a peaceful solution to the conflict. We fully support the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, as well the meetings of our presidents. However, resolutions of the UN Security Council demanding an unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan`s occupied lands have not yet been fulfilled. The efforts of the Minsk group have not given any results.”
Pashazade noted: “Being religious leaders, we consider it important to continue efforts, and express our readiness to provide any assistance to these efforts.”
“We support all efforts aimed at finding a peaceful, international law-based solution to the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict. We made some achievements thanks to mediation of the Russian patriarch. We made practical steps in exchanging prisoners of war, ensuring mutual preservation of monuments of cultural legacy, and, most importantly, we managed to prevent the conflict from transforming into a religions one.”
The participants adopted a final document.
Following the event, Armenian Catholicos Garegin II, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade and Russian Patriarch Kirill had a trilateral meeting, which culminated with the adoption of a joint declaration.
During his visit Pashazade visited a historic mosque in Yerevan. The Azerbaijani mosque was built in the 18th century as a place of worship for Muslims living in Yerevan. Pashazade led the Azerbaijani delegation`s prayer at the mosque.
As part of his visit the leader of Caucasian Muslims, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade was received President Serzh Sargsyan.
