COP Jacket successfully completed
Baku, December 12 (AZERTAC). Representatives of mass media have visited today Heydar Aliyev Baku Deepwater Jackets Factory (BDJF) to get familiarize themselves with the construction and installation works within Chirag Oil project (COP).
They were briefly informed about the construction of the jacket being fully completed for the West Chirag platform as part of the 6-billion dollar Chirag Oil Project.
The heaviest jacket ever built in the Caspian was safely loaded out onto the transportation barge STB-1 at the quayside of the Heydar Aliyev Baku Deepwater Jackets Factory (BDJF).
The sail away for offshore installation is planned for early 2013.
The construction of the West Chirag jacket commenced in 2010 and was completed on schedule during the fourth quarter of 2012. During this period over 2000 people including sub contractors and specialist vendors, were involved in the construction works. Some 96% of the workforce was Azerbaijan nationals. The jacket was constructed by the local company BOS Shelf, now fully owned by SOCAR, who have used local construction infrastructure at BDJF facilities.
The jacket has a total weight of 18,200 tonnes (which includes 1500 tonnes of floatation tanks) and is about 185 metres high. It is comprised of 13 piles (12 plus one spare) with a total weight of 6700 tons, seven risers, eight j-tubes and ten caissons. It will be installed at a water depth of about 170 metres.
The sanction to start Chirag Oil project was issued on 9 March 2010. Implementation of the project will promote additional production of 360m barrels of oil (about 50m tonnes of oil) from Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli.
By the plans, the first oil within the framework of Chiraq Oil will be produced in the fourth quarter of 2013.
From the platform Western Chirag, the daily oil output is to make up 183,000 barrels, 229,000,000 standard cubic feet of gas. Additionally, 80m standard cubic feet of gas will be pumped into the wells to maintain pressure in the layers and 189,000 barrels of water. This operation will be carried out from the technical platform of Deepwater Guneshli, where there is also a plan to hold expansion works.
The whole construction works on this project are planned to end in the third quarter of 2013.
The project does not envisage expansion of the Sangachal terminal since the existing capacities are enough for this project.
