WB plans to implement 3 projects in Azerbaijan in 2013 fiscal year
Baku, December 30 (AZERTAC). The World Bank plans a minimum of operations in Azerbaijan in the new fiscal year (1 July 2012 - 1 July 2013). In 2013, the WB plans to approve three projects for Azerbaijan: Second Rural Investment Project, new financing for the agricultural sector and additional funding for health sector reform.
A loan of $30 million will be provided through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).
The amount of World Bank funding for projects in Azerbaijan in the first two years of a four-year country strategy (2011-2014) amounts to $175.4 million. The lending programme for the remaining two years will be based on a report on the strategy`s implementation.
The current strategy of cooperation with Azerbaijan is designed for 2011-2014. It is based on such priorities as strengthening the non-oil sector of the economy, including infrastructure development and agriculture.
Moreover, the bank will also focus on improving the effectiveness of social services, including health, education, social protection and water supply. Azerbaijan has been a WB member since 1992.
In the Doing Business - 2013, developed by the World Bank for the tenth time, Azerbaijan took the 67th position in the global ranking among 185 countries.
Doing Business captures several important dimensions of the regulatory environment as they apply to local firms. It provides quantitative measures of regulations for Starting A Business, Dealing with Construction Permits, Getting Electricity, Registering Property, Getting Credit, Protecting Investors, Paying Taxes, Trading Across Borders, Enforcing Contracts and Resolving Insolvency.
Singapore topped the global ranking on the ease of doing business for the seventh consecutive year, followed by Hong Kong SAR, China, New Zealand, the United States and Denmark. Georgia was a new entrant to the top 10.
