AZERBAIJAN PARLIAMENTARY DELEGATION PARTICIPATES IN OSCE PA WINTER SESSION
Deputy Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Parliament, Bahar Muradova-led Azerbaijan parliamentary delegation including MPs Rabiyyat Aslanova, Eldar Ibrahimov, Fatah Heydarov and Azay Guliyev participated in the 7th winter session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly on February 21-22 in Vienna.
The session discussed implementation of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, deployment of a missile defense shield in Europe, migration processes in Europe and Kosovo problem, fight against discrimination and other issues.
Azerbaijani delegation actively participated in the discussions on Kosovo`s independence.
On Azerbaijan’s stance towards the Kosovo independence Bahar Muradova said: “All countries have to respect the norms and principles of the international law, as well as principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders and non-interference in the internal affairs of a country. In this context, the effort to resolve Kosovo-like problems by unilateral declaration of independence causes concern”. According to her, neither specific conditions caused by the Kosovo problem, nor UN Security Council’s resolution 1244 setting forth future steps and frameworks to determine the final status of Kosovo provide a basis for acts violating Serbia’s national unity and territorial integrity. At the same time, it contradicts the objectives and principles of the UN charter, 1975 Helsinki final act and other international documents. She went on to say that contradiction in interpretation of the UN Security Council resolution 1244 and lack of progress in political negotiations does not justify unilateral actions. Muradova pointed out that any act violating territorial integrity of sovereign states fuels tension and instability. The Republic of Azerbaijan disfavors the situation caused by unilateral actions harming the national unity and violating the territorial integrity of a state.
Speaking at the meeting of the General Committee on Economic Affairs, Science, Technology and Environment, Eldar Ibrahimov, chairman of the Milli Majlis Standing Commission on Agrarian Policy touched on the work done in Azerbaijan to protect environment in Azerbaijan. He highlighted Armenia’s occupying 20% of Azerbaijani territories and using these uncontrolled territories for human trafficking, trade in arms and other illegal actions.
He said cultivation of narcotic plants, dumping of radioactive waste into the Araz river damage the ecology of Azerbaijan and make lands useless for farming in the occupied areas
