Estonian parliamentarians issue statement condemning crime against humanity in Khojaly

The Estonia–Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Riigikogu has issued a statement expressing deep condolences to the people of Azerbaijan on the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly massacre and vehemently condemning the crime against humanity committed in Khojaly.
“The Estonia–Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Riigikogu expresses its deep condolences to the people of Azerbaijan on the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly massacre. The Parliamentary Friendship Group commemorates the more than 600 civilian victims and expresses its support for the State of Azerbaijan in building lasting peace on its territory,” the statement said.
“We share the pain of the Azerbaijani people over the Khojaly massacre, where more than 600 innocent civilians were brutally killed, including many children, women, and elderly people. We strongly condemn the crimes against humanity committed against Azerbaijani civilians during the occupation of Khojaly on the night of February 25–26, 1992,” the statement reads.
“We acknowledge that all countries in the region have the right to sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as to the inviolability of their internationally recognized borders. We express our support for the Republic of Azerbaijan in establishing lasting peace on its territory, promoting integration, and carrying out reconstruction,” the members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group noted.
The Group also emphasized the importance of lasting peace and stability in the South Caucasus and respect for the principles of international law.
“We value dialogue, trust-building, and the peaceful development of the region. The Estonia–Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group appreciates parliamentary cooperation between our countries and is committed to strengthening it further,” the statement concluded.
