Pakistan: 14 killed, 9 injured as mini truck crashes into canal amid dense fog
Islamabad, Hilal Ahmad, January 17, AZERTAC
At least 14 people were killed and nine others injured in Pakistan after a mini truck plunged into a canal amid dense fog in Punjab province, rescue officials said.
The accident occurred near Kot Momin in Sargodha district, where thick fog severely reduced visibility on the road. According to reports, the vehicle lost control and fell into a canal that was dry at the time of the incident.
The deceased include six children, five women, and three men. A total of 23 people were traveling in the mini truck, which was en route to a funeral when the accident happened.
Rescue officials confirmed that seven passengers died at the scene, while the remaining victims were rushed to a local hospital. The injured are currently receiving medical treatment.
Emergency response teams arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and launched rescue operations. Preliminary findings suggest that poor visibility caused by heavy fog was the main factor behind the accident. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances.
