ALMATY HOSTS 7th EURASIAN MEDIA FORUM
The 7th Eurasian Media Forum has opened today in Kazakhstan’s capital Almaty.
The independent public forum is aimed at strengthening understanding and cooperation between the East and the West through dialogue with the participation of world mass media.
The event brings together 450 participants from 50 countries, including political scientists, well-known journalists and writers, as well as representatives of the United Nations, Nato and OSCE.
Former national security adviser to the US President Zbigniew Brzezinski, OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, NATO special representative on communication and cooperation with Central Asian countries Tugay Tuncer are also among the participants of the forum.
Azerbaijan is represented by Ambassador Latif Gandilov, Director of the Centre for Strategic Studies under the Azerbaijan President Elkhan Nuriyev, employee of Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency AZERTAC Nazim Khidirov and director of Trend news agency Ilgar Huseynov.
Addressing the forum, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev called for new forms of international cooperation to overcome global economic imbalance which causes illegal migration and extremism.
The participants in the forum discussed conflicts in Kosovo self-declared provinces, Nagorno-Karabakh, Abkhazia and Southern Ossetia.
Elkhan Nuriyev spoke to the forum saying the recognition of Kosovo’s independence can not set a precedent for Nagorno-Karabakh.
