Azerbaijan’s Victory Day celebrated in Sydney

A festive concert and photo exhibition marking November 8 — Victory Day were held in Sydney, Australia.
The event, organized by the Alliance of Australian Azerbaijani Associations with the support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in the Commonwealth of Australia and the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, business and academic circles, media representatives, members of the Azerbaijani community in Australia, and leaders of local national communities.
Vagif Jafarov, Chargé d’Affaires of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Australia, said that November 8 — Victory Day holds a special place in the glorious history of the Azerbaijani people.
“The date marked not only the end of the occupation but also the restoration of Azerbaijan’s national dignity, pride, and justice,” he said.
Jafarov stressed that this historic Victory was achieved thanks to the unity of the people under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the heroism of the Armed Forces, and the strength of the state. He also expressed deep gratitude to the brotherly countries, including Türkiye and Pakistan, which stood by Azerbaijan during its just struggle, as well as to the Australian government for respecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Fuad Aydinbeyzade, head of the Alliance of Australian Azerbaijani Associations, emphasized that Azerbaijanis living in Australia actively contribute to the country’s socio-political and cultural life, which they consider their second homeland.
The newly established Azerbaijan National Dance Association, the “Odlar Yurdu” ensemble led by Honored Artist Sevinj Huseynli, the Australian soprano of Turkish origin Ayşe Göknur Şanal, the ADENA Dance Ensemble, and the Aytay instrumental group presented a vibrant concert program featuring Azerbaijani music and dance performances.
As part of the event, an exhibition dedicated to Victory displayed rare photographs depicting the 44-day Patriotic War, the reconstruction of the liberated territories, and the heroism of Azerbaijani martyrs. The audience viewed with great interest the images symbolizing Azerbaijan’s struggle for freedom.
