Baku, March 6, AZERTAC
Qatar's English daily Gulf Times newspaper has published an article headlined “Qatar Chamber in talks with Azeri delegation on co-operation in agriculture”.
The article highlights the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation led by chairperson of the Agro Procurement and Supply OJSC under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Agriculture Leyla Mammadova to Qatar and the delegation’s meeting with Qatar Chamber first vice chairman Mohamed bin Towar al-Kuwari and discussions on cooperation in the field of agriculture between the two countries.
The article says: “In a statement, Qatar Chamber said both officials reviewed ways to support the co-operation between Qatari and Azerbaijani business owners, and work to strengthen areas of co-operation in many sectors, especially in food security and agriculture.
During the meeting, al-Kuwari and Mammadova also reviewed the possibility of importing Azerbaijani products to the Qatari market, and providing the Chamber with information about the Azerbaijani agricultural sector.
Al-Kuwari said Qatar and Azerbaijan “enjoy distinguished relations in many fields,” noting that there is a scope for co-operation between the private sectors of both countries in food security.
He affirmed that “Qatar attaches a great interest” to the food security sector and that there are numerous mega projects being held in this sector, such as the large warehousing projects adjacent to the Hamad Port.
Al-Kuwari pointed out that “there is a great interest” on the part of Qatari investors in exploring the investment opportunities available in Azerbaijan.”
“The time is appropriate for more partnerships between both sides, and for taking advantage of advanced infrastructure in Qatar, in addition to the incentives and legislation that encourage investment, as well as the existence of economic zones and free zones that attract domestic and foreign investment,” he said.
“Mammadova said the objective of the visit is to inform the Qatari private sector on the investment opportunities available in Azerbaijan and to urge Qataris to invest in Azerbaijan. She also said ‘Agro Procurement and Supply’ OJSC under the Ministry of Agriculture seeks to encourage Azerbaijani farmers and food producers to export, as well as to promote agricultural and food products abroad and explore export opportunities,” the article concludes.
