Azerbaijan State Migration Service top official attends 5th Ministerial Conference in Istanbul
Baku, April 23 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani delegation headed by the Chief of the State Migration Service, III rank state migration service counselor Firudin Nabiyev attended the 5th Ministerial Conference dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Budapest Process and the Silk Routes Partnership for Migration held last Friday in Istanbul, Turkey.
The conference was opened by Turkish Minister of Internal Affairs Muammar Guler, who thanked representatives of countries and international organizations for participation.
Speaking on the essence of the Budapest Process, Guler said one of the aims of the Process was to stop uncontrolled migration to Europe.
Guler said since 2006 Turkey is chairing the Budapest Process.
The conference, attended by representatives from 45 countries and 12 international organizations, discussed a number of issues, including legal migration, migration and development, uncontrolled migration, human trafficking and international patronage.
Addressing the conference, chief of the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan Firudin Nabiyev thanked the Turkish government, Hungary and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development for the high level organization of the conference.
He stressed the important achievements of the Budapest Process in establishment of intergovernmental dialogue during the last 20 years.
He said one of the priorities of the foreign policy of Azerbaijan, which has important geostrategic position on the junction of Europe and Asia, is to balance the relations with regional countries.
Nabiyev also gave detailed information about the structure of the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan.
The conference finalized with the adoption of Joint Declaration on cooperation.
Within the framework of the conference, the chief of the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan also met with the minister of refugees and returnees of Afghanistan Jamahir Anwari and Iraq`s deputy minister of migration and displacement Asghar al-Mussawi, to discuss development of bilateral ties and regulation of migration questions between the two countries.
