Stockholm, November 21, Nargiz Jafarli, AZERTAC
The Norwegian publication Geopolitika has published an article by Zaur Ahmadov, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark. The article discusses Azerbaijan being granted full membership in the Central Asia Consultative Meeting.
The diplomat describes this move as a historic event that opens a new era of cooperation in Eurasia. He notes that the decision made on November 16 in Tashkent gives regional interaction a new dimension. Azerbaijan and the Central Asian countries are forming a united strategic space that connects Asia and Europe.
The author emphasizes that Azerbaijan and the countries in the region have been building ties within the Organization of Turkic States. This partnership is now reaching a new level, uniting the states based on historical, cultural, and linguistic connections, as well as economic and political interests.
He pays special attention to Azerbaijan’s role as a bridge between Central Asia and Europe. He points out that thanks to the development of the Middle Corridor, the modernization of the Port of Baku, and the growth of transport infrastructure, cargo transit through Azerbaijan has increased by 90 percent. This makes the route more important for Europe.
Ahmadov also highlights the importance of cooperation with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan in energy, transport, and digitalization. He stresses the need for unified logistics and customs standards. In his view, this will speed up trade and improve the global competitiveness of the Middle Corridor.
In conclusion, the ambassador notes that the new “platform of six states” represents the region’s hope for stability, mutual respect, and independence. He believes the decision made in Tashkent was a timely and strategically sound step amid rapidly changing global geopolitics.
