SOCAR inaugurates South Caucasus’s first fully electric charging station in Tbilisi
Tbilisi, February 20, AZERTAC
On February 20, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) launched the South Caucasus region's first fully electric charging station in Tbilisi.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in the region’s energy transformation, reaffirming the company’s long-term commitment to renewable energy, innovation, and sustainable development. The new facility is designed exclusively for electric vehicles (EVs) and aligns with SOCAR’s ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) priorities.
The station is equipped with four charging units, allowing for the simultaneous charging of six vehicles. Two chargers operate in fast-charging mode at 120 kW, enabling a full charge in approximately 40 minutes. The other two, with a capacity of 22 kW, are intended for customers visiting the "zero-plastic" concept WAY MART store and café located on-site.
Partly powered by solar energy, the facility builds on SOCAR’s expanding renewable portfolio in Georgia, where the company has already installed solar panels at six existing filling stations.
Forecasts indicate that the number of electric vehicles in Georgia will grow from 17,000 in 2025 to between 70,000 and 80,000 by 2030. To meet this rising demand, infrastructure development has become a central strategic priority for SOCAR. Currently, the company provides EV charging facilities at 15 of its filling stations across the country, with active plans for further expansion.
