Azerbaijan, Latvia explore agricultural cooperation

Majnun Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture and Co-Chair of the Azerbaijan–Latvia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, met with Armands Krauze, Latvia’s Minister of Agriculture and Co-Chair of the Commission.
During the meeting, Majnun Mammadov highlighted that Azerbaijan places great emphasis on developing relations with Latvia based on friendship, mutual respect, and mutually beneficial cooperation. He briefed his Latvian counterpart on Azerbaijan’s ongoing restoration efforts in its liberated territories, including the designation of these areas as a green energy zone and the implementation of the “Smart City” and “Smart Village” concepts. The minister expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to cooperate with Latvia in applying advanced technologies and exchanging experience in this process.
Armands Krauze reaffirmed Latvia’s willingness to advance relations with Azerbaijan across all areas, noting the significant potential for further cooperation.
The meeting also focused on bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, transport, ICT, culture, education, and tourism, as well as the resumption of direct flights to Azerbaijan by Latvia’s national airline, the effective use of tourism potential, and collaboration in the processing of agricultural products.
The officials reviewed the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission and discussed preparations for its 9th meeting, scheduled to take place on April 15 in Shusha. They also discussed the establishment of a joint working group on agriculture.
In addition, the sides addressed strengthening regional cooperation, organizing information exchange on products with high export potential, increasing trade turnover, expanding ties between business communities, transferring modern technologies in the agricultural sector, conducting scientific research, and training agricultural specialists.
The meeting also covered other issues of mutual interest.
