Baku hosts “Neocolonialism and Global Inequality” international conference

An international conference on “Neocolonialism and Global Inequality,” organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), was held in Baku on February 19.
The event commenced with the screening of a video highlighting the activities of BIG. The conference gathered politicians, scholars, public figures, leaders of independence movements, and researchers specialized in neocolonialism from the U.S., Guadeloupe, Corsica, New Caledonia, Reunion, Comoros, Belgium, Germany, Algeria, Togo, Cameroon, and Martinique.
The conference featured panel discussions titled “Epigenetic Factor of Colonialism,” “How Independence Movements Prevailed Over the Colonial Order,” “How French Assimilation Policies Reshaped Identity,” and “How Colonial Empires Divided the World: Borders, Power, and Lasting Consequences.”
The discussions focused on the psychological and biological impacts of the colonial legacy, intergenerational trauma, social consequences, as well as culture, language, and identity. Speakers emphasized the importance of eliminating the legacy of colonialism, accelerating decolonization processes, and strengthening international cooperation in this area. They stressed the importance of studying the historical roots of global inequality and formulating joint approaches to respond to modern challenges.
In conclusion, the participants adopted a Final Statement on the outcomes of the “Neocolonialism and Global Inequality” international conference.
