Baku, February 5, AZERTAC
The opening ceremony of the second edition of the Youth Week of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) was held at the Baku Convention Center on February 5.
The event explored dialogue, cooperation, and the active participation of young people in addressing global issues.
Addressing the event, Leyla Hasanova, Chairperson of the NAM Youth Organization (NAMYO) and Youth Climate Champion for COP29, noted that NAM Youth Week—a flagship initiative of the NAM Youth Organization dedicated to February 2, the National Youth Day of Azerbaijan—brings together youth, as well as representatives of the public and private sectors and international organizations.
She praised the event as a major initiative aimed at empowering young people and increasing their role in shaping the modern global youth agenda. Leyla Hasanova emphasized that platforms created at the initiative of young people promote dialogue, mutual understanding, and international cooperation.
Yalchin Rafiyev, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and COP29 Lead Negotiator, highlighted the changes taking place in the international environment, the importance of diplomacy in promoting multilateral cooperation, as well as the key priorities of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy and its position within the evolving international system.
Following the speeches, participants watched a video showcasing the main efforts, key milestones, and achievements of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization to date.
Over the next two days, more than 100 local and international participants, including politicians, diplomats, and experts, will come together to exchange views on current international issues through panel discussions and interactive seminars.
