Turkmenistan to host next meeting of CIS Foreign Ministers

A CIS Foreign Ministers’ Council meeting was held in Moscow at the Russian Foreign Ministry. Azerbaijan was represented at the event by Deputy Foreign Minister Samir Sharifov.
The ministers initially held a meeting in a limited format that lasted more than two hours, followed by talks involving delegations.
The discussions covered international and regional issues and focused on priority areas of CIS activity as the organization marks its 35th anniversary this year.
Turkmenistan will assume the chairmanship of the CIS in 2026. Following the meeting, participants adopted several decisions aimed at strengthening foreign policy coordination and expanding cooperation in law enforcement, cultural, and humanitarian areas.
The ministers also considered granting two Russian educational institutions the status of CIS basic organizations. Additionally, the meeting reviewed the implementation of the 2025 plan for multi-level interagency consultations within the CIS, as well as the action program on expanded partnership between the foreign ministries of member states.
Most of the approved documents will be submitted to the CIS Councils of Heads of State and Government for review. It was also decided that the next regular meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers will be held in Turkmenistan on October 7.
Following the session, CIS Secretary-General Sergey Lebedev and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a joint press conference.
