AZERBAIJAN-GERMAN BUSINESS FORUM WRAPS UP IN BAKU
Azerbaijan-German business forum was held June 6 in Baku. Addressing the participants, Deputy Minister for Economic Development of Azerbaijan Niyazi Safarov told of the successful economic reforms being implemented in the country. Mr. Safarov underlined that GDP increased by 40% in the first quarter of 2007 against 35% in 2006. The very important measures have been undertaken in the land reforms and privatization of the state property.
“Up to now, 500 thousand job places were opened in Azerbaijan in accordance with the Stage Program on socio-economic development of the regions, said Deputy Minister. On Azerbaijan-German relations, Mr. Safarov noted that these ties reached high level after the official visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Germany.
“German KWF Bank has allocated € 144,2 mln loan within past years, including € 23,8 mln grant. German Cooperation Society (GTZ) implemented various projects to develop the private sector, agrarian reforms, courts etc. The government of Germany has allocated € 40 mln within the framework of the technical cooperation.
Ambassador of Germany in Baku Per Christofer Stanchina underscored that his country attaches high significance to cooperation with Azerbaijan. “Azerbaijan is the rich country, and transnational companies can do the investments here. The trade turnover between the two countries makes up 60%”, said Mr. Stanchina.
Deputy head for the energy issues of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology of Germany Hartmut Schrader stressed the need of development of the cooperation in all areas.
