Azerbaijan, World Bank discuss agricultural cooperation

Majnun Mammadov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture, met with World Bank Group’s Agriculture and Food mission, who is on a visit to the country.
The meeting revolved around discussions on the current state and prospects of cooperation between the Azerbaijani government and the World Bank in the field of agriculture and irrigation, including the preparations, approval and implementation of the "Competitive, Resilient Agriculture and Irrigation Services" (CRAIS) project, which is being prepared jointly with the Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Agriculture.
The project includes the renovation of water transportation infrastructure across the country, the construction of modern irrigation systems in selected areas, land consolidation, and pilot applications related to the work of Water Users Associations (WUAs).
It will contribute to enhancing productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness in Azerbaijan’s agricultural sector through irrigation water conservation and climate-friendly approaches.
Azerbaijani Minister Majnun Mammadov provided information about measures undertaken in Azerbaijan in the field of agriculture, stating that restoration of irrigation systems and the implementation of water-saving systems are of particular importance in the development of the country's agriculture.
Holger Kray, the World Bank's Regional Manager for Agriculture and Food in Europe and Central Asia, lauded Azerbaijan’s achievements in the field of development of agriculture and irrigation infrastructure.
According to him, Azerbaijan attaches special importance to combating climate change and its negative impacts.
The meeting also focused on preparation for project implementation, involvement of experts in the field, acceleration of technical preparation processes, and other issues of mutual interest.
