Azerbaijan’s model of religious tolerance promoted in Jerusalem

As part of his visit to Israel, Ravan Hasanov, Executive Director of the Baku International Multiculturalism Center (BIMC), met with Theophilos III, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem.
During the meeting, the BMIC Executive Director highlighted the main principles of multiculturalism policy in Azerbaijan, the environment of religious and cultural diversity in the country, as well as the ongoing efforts to promote mutual respect and dialogue between different religions.
Ravan Hasanov emphasized that throughout history, Azerbaijan has been a unique space where various religions and cultures have coexisted in peace.
Hasanov emphasized that the Christian community has been a cornerstone of Azerbaijan’s cultural and public life for centuries, adding that the Azerbaijani state provides full protection for the Orthodox, Catholic, and Albanian-Udi communities.
Patriarch Theophilos III commended Azerbaijan’s environment of multicultural and religious tolerance, as well as the state’s commitment to preserving and supporting Christian heritage. He underscored that fostering interfaith dialogue remains a vital necessity in today’s modern world.
The meeting focused on enhancing partnerships and fostering intercultural and interfaith dialogue.
