Director Jane Campion will head 67th Annual Cannes Film Fest Jury
Baku, April 4 (AZERTAC). The 67th annual Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from 14 to 25 May 2014. Oscar-winning director Jane Campion has been announced as the head of the 67th Cannes film festival jury.
In late January of 2014 it was announced that the long delayed Grace of Monaco, directed by Olivier Dahan and starring Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly, would open the festival playing out of competition. Due to European elections taking place on 25 May 2014, the winner of the Palme d`Or will be announced on 24 May, and the winning film in the Un Certain Regard section announced on 23 May.
The Offical Selection of films for the 2014 festival, including the line-up for the Main Competition, is scheduled to be announced on 17 April 2014.
Wellington, New Zealand-born Campion (who won the Best Screenplay Oscar in 1993 for her film “The Piano”) said of the nod: “Since I first went to Cannes with my short films in 1986 [. . .] my admiration for this Queen of film festivals has only grown larger. At the Cannes Film Festival they manage to combine and celebrate the glamour of the industry, the stars, the parties, the beaches, the business, while rigorously maintaining the festival's seriousness about the Art and excellence of new world cinema.”
Campion`s “The Piano” won the Cannes festival`s highest award, the Palme d`or, in 1993. She has since worked on films including “The Portrait of a Lady,” “Holy Smoke,” and “In The Cut,” as well as on the television series “Top of the Lake.”
The festival runs from May 14 to 25.
