MM DEPUTY SPEAKER MEETS WITH CHAIRMAN OF US HOUSE SUBCOMMITTEE ON EUROPE

According to him, bilateral relations were boosted by President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Chairwoman of the U.S.-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mehriban Aliyeva’s visit to the USA in 2006.
MM Deputy Speaker said Azerbaijan is keen on developing ties with the United States.
Robert Wexler touched upon his meetings with President Ilham Aliyev and Chairwoman of the U.S.-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mehriban Aliyeva. He welcomed Azerbaijan’s efforts to integrate into the West.
Congressman praised Azerbaijan’s participation in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Iraq. He said the Subcommittee is keen on developing relationships with Azerbaijan, adding the US Government is ready to support democracy in Azerbaijan.
Wexler welcomed Azerbaijan’s role in developing Washington’s ties with Turkey and Middle East.
Asgarov noted Azerbaijan, the country suffering most from the terror, is ready to cooperate with the USA in the fight against terrorism. Azerbaijan’s joining anti-terror coalition and rapid reaction to 9/11 terrorist attacks is the testimony of this.
Asgarov said occupation Armenia’s occupation of 20% of Azerbaijani lands and disregard for the UN Security Council resolutions seriously impede development of Azerbaijan in any sphere. Unfortunately, some countries still turn a blind eye to Armenia’s supporting terrorism. It is dangerous not only for Azerbaijan but also for the region and West.
Then, Asgarov briefed the US delegation on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, its grave consequences, cultivation of narcotic substances in the occupied lands and the fact that Armenia arms itself at the expense of narcotic drug revenues.
