YARAG-KAZMALA CHECKPOINT AT RUSSIA-AZERBAIJAN BORDERS TO BE DEVELOPED
Russia plans to develop its southern borders until 2007 in line with today’s requirements. This issue was discussed on January 29 at the sitting of the State Frontier Service dedicated to the issues of border development in the Northern Caucasus region. The sitting was presided by director of the Federal Security Service of Russia Nikolay Patrushev. The sitting, in particular, revolved around the issue of Yarag-Kazmala checkpoint development at the Russia-Azerbaijan borders.
While discussing the issue of the Russia-Azerbaijan border development, wishes of the Daghestani leaders were taken into consideration, Mr. Patrushev said upon completion of the sitting.
Mr. Patrushev mentioned that Russia attaches a paramount significance to the development of its southern borders. According to FSS director, it is difficult to meet the deadline, as there is much work to do. He noted that representatives of the Federal Authorities of the Russian Federation Subjects had also expressed their opinion towards this issue.
