2011-2012 Global UGRAD second round completed
Baku, March 28 (AZERTAC). Some 22 applications have been accepted by IREX Azerbaijan for the 2011-2012 cycle of the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program in Eurasia and Central Asia (Global UGRAD Program). Global UGRAD is the program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State. The program administrated by IREX provides opportunities for full-time undergraduate students from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Armenia to spend one academic year of non-degree study in a US university or community college.
All fellows will attend classes full-time for one academic year, and will be required to perform a minimum of 20 hours of community service in their host city during the first semester. Fellows will also be required to complete a part-time internship during their second semester.
The fellowship provides J-1 visa support, round-trip travel from fellows` home cities to their US host institutions, tuition and mandatory university fees, accident and sickness coverage, room and board (housing and meals), limited book allowance, small incidentals allowance and a wide variety of alumni networking and training opportunities.
The UGRAD Program selects outstanding students from the abovementioned countries to receive fellowships for undergraduate level study in the United States in the fields of accounting, agriculture, anthropology, biology, business, chemistry, computer science, criminal justice, economics, education, engineering, environmental management, geology, hospitality management, international relations, journalism and mass communication, law, physics, political science, psychology, sociology, urban planning, U.S. studies and others.

IREX has been registered in Azerbaijan since 1998. Working throughout the country, IREX currently administers a variety of civil society, higher education and media development programs funded by USAID and the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) of the US Department of State.
