CONFERENCE ON AZERBAIJAN AND EUROPEAN NEIGHBORHOOD POLICY HELD IN BAKU
Today, a conference on the theme “Azerbaijan and European Neighborhood Policy” with the support of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs was held in Hotel Europe, Baku, Azerbaijan.
The conference aimed at to discuss the main point of the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP), its relative procedures and the Action plan signed between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
Deputy Foreign Minister, Mahmud Mammadguliyev, who opened the conference, said one of the basic directions of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy is to integrate into Europe and Euro Atlantic structures.
The legal and political bases of cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU have been formed thanks to works done in last years. The sides signed in 1996 an agreement on cooperation and partnership, and the Action plan in November of 2006, within the frameworks of European Neighborhood Policy, the deputy minister underscored.
The deputy minister also said that the action plan deals with issues of democracy, protection of human rights, development of market economy and regulation of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh by peace way.
Alan Waddams, special envoy of the European Commission, briefing the participants of the conference on the European Neighborhood Policy, said except the countries of the South Caucasus, the program also includes, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Moldova, Morocco and Ukraine and etc.
Alan Waddams pointed out that 12 billion euro would be expended for the realization of the European Neighborhood Policy, adding a work is being carried out to simplify the visa regime for partner countries involved in the European Neighborhood Policy.
Azerbaijan will be allocated 92 million during 2007-2010 under the European Neighborhood Policy, Wolfgang Sporrer, House of Europe coordinator said.
