PART OF TURKEY-GREECE GAS PIPELINE CONSTRUCTED
The Turkey-Greece gas pipeline is a good example of friendship and regional cooperation, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Hilmi Guler said at a ceremony marking the completion of construction of the stretch of the Turkey-Greece gas pipeline over the Meric river.
Hilmi Guler pointed out that construction of the Turkey-Greece gas pipeline had not damaged the environment around the Meric river. This project will be very important for transporting Caspian natural gas reserves from Azerbaijan and Georgia to Turkey, and further to Europe.
Hilmi Guler said the project encouraged by Prime Ministers Kostas Karamanlis of Greece and Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey was completed 20 days ahead of schedule.
Gas transportation can begin after Prime Ministers’ meeting on August 16-20. The first stage envisages transportation of 250 million cubic meters of gas. The pipeline begins in Karatchabep in Turkey and runs to Komotini in Greece. The length of Turkish section is 210 km, of which 17 km are under the Marmara Sea. The length of Greek section is 86 km.
