Azerbaijan attends session of International Civil Aviation Organization
Baku, October 15 (AZERTAC). Director of the State Civil Aviation Administration of Azerbaijan Fuad Guliyev has participated in the 38th Session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in Montreal, Canada.
The ICAO Assembly, composed of representatives from all Member States is the sovereign body of ICAO. It meets every three years, reviewing the work of the organization, approving its budget and setting policy for the coming triennium. IATA is one of a limited number of key international organizations that are authorized to attend the Assembly as observers.
ICAO’s 38th Assembly concluded with a series of successes for the industry - the most visible of which is an agreement on a path forward with regard to climate change.
Following fierce debates and several rounds of votes in the Assembly’s Executive Committee, the Assembly decided to develop a market based measure for international aviation. It also requested the ICAO Council to finalize the work on the technical aspects, environmental and economic impacts and modalities of the possible options for a global MBM scheme. The results of the work of the Council will be reported to the next Assembly in 2016 for decision.
The ICAO Assembly is the Organization’s sovereign body. It meets at least once every three years and is convened by ICAO’s governing body, the Council.
ICAO's 191 Member States and a large number of international organizations are invited to the Assembly, which establishes the worldwide policy of the Organization for the upcoming triennium.
During Assembly Sessions, ICAO’s complete work programme in the technical, economic, legal and technical cooperation fields is reviewed in detail.
A specialized agency of the United Nations, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) was created in 1944 to promote the safe and orderly growth of international civil aviation throughout the world. Today, ICAO has 191 Member States and the organization's key role is to establish standards, recommended practices and guidance materials that ensure aviation safety, security, efficiency and regularity, as well as environmental protection. IATA, as the global airline industry association, has a long history of cooperation with ICAO.
