AZERBAIJAN-LATVIA EDUCATIONAL FORUM KICKS OFF IN BAKU
Baku, May 24 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijan-Latvia educational forum has started today here bringing together rectors of the two countries` higher educational institutions, as well as Azerbaijan`s Education Minister Misir Mardanov and his Latvian counterpart Tatjana Koke.
Addressing the event, Mardanov briefed the participants on the ongoing educational reforms in Azerbaijan.
“Some 16 state programs on education are underway in Azerbaijan. These programs have seen the construction of a large number of state-of-the-art kindergartens and schools across the country.”
Mardanov underlined the role of President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Goodwill ambassador, MP Mehriban Aliyeva in improving conditions for students across the country to take education.
Mardanov noted Azerbaijan`s education was successfully integrating into the world educational system.
He also stressed the importance of boosting the cooperation between the Education Ministry and World Bank.
Koke, in turn, emphasized the necessity of carrying out joint programs between the two countries` education ministries, in particular conducting an exchange of students.
Rector of the Baku State University, MP Abel Maharramov said national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev placed “a particular importance” on development of education and science in Azerbaijan.
“President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues the national leader`s policy,” added Maharramov.
Prior to the meeting, the participants visited the Alley of Honors to lay a wreath at the tomb of national leader Heydar Aliyev and put flowers at the grave of outstanding ophthalmologist Zarifa Aliyeva. They also visited a memorial to Azerbaijani martyrs who gave their lives for the country`s independence and territorial integrity.
