Nobel Week Guests of Honour Arriving in Stockholm
Baku, December 6 (AZERTAC). Nine Laureates are now arriving in Stockholm to be honoured during a week of scientific and cultural events, culminating in the Nobel Prize Award Ceremony and the Nobel Banquet on December 10. The Nobel Peace Prize will be awarded on the same day in Oslo.
The Nobel Week will begin on December 6 with an informal visit to the Nobel Museum in the old Stock Exchange building in Stockholm`s Old Town. On the following days, December 7 and 8, the Laureates will deliver their Nobel Lectures. The lectures will be held in the Aula Magna at Stockholm University (Physics, Chemistry and Economic Sciences) and at the Swedish Academy (Literature). The Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, Robert G. Edwards, will not be present in Stockholm for reasons of health. On December 7, a symposium will be held in his honour at Karolinska Institutet, where three prominent researchers in his field will speak, including a long-time colleague of the Laureate, Professor Martin H. Johnson.
On December 8, the Laureates can enjoy this year`s Nobel Prize Concert, featuring the world-famous American violinist Joshua Bell and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sakari Oramo. The concert is being organised by Nobel Media AB, in partnership with the Stockholm Concert Hall. The Nobel Day, December 10, will begin with the traditional Nobel Prize Award Ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall, where this year`s Laureates will receive their Nobel medals and diplomas. The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Gustaf Sjökvist, will provide musical interludes. The soloist will be Katarina Karnéus, mezzo soprano, who will perform works by Gluck and Rossini. In charge of the floral arrangements at the Concert Hall is Helén Magnusson of Hässelby Blommor.
At the subsequent Nobel Banquet at the Stockholm City Hall, guests will enjoy the 2010 Nobel menu and a divertissement created by choreographer Birgitta Egerbladh − a specially composed piece of entertainment for which she gained inspiration from the Nobel Banquet itself and from the creative research process. Gunnar Kaj is in charge of the floral arrangements at the City Hall. The official Nobel Week programme will conclude on December 12 with individual visits by the Laureates to the Nobel Foundation. There they will discuss the details concerning the transfer of their prize money and retrieve their medals and diplomas, which will have been displayed in the Golden Hall of the Stockholm City Hall during the Nobel Banquet.
