US DEPARTMENT OF STATE CONSIDERS IRAN UNRELIABLE BUSINESS PARTNER
Transportation of natural gas in region is on the agenda of daily briefings at the US Department of State, AZERTAC correspondent reports. Commenting the decision of Turkey to suspend transportation of gas to Greece as a result of cut of gas delivery from Iran to Turkey, spokesman of the Department of State said that the gas delivery suspension linked to the agreement between Turkish BOTASH and Greek DEPA companies.
Greece will find natural gas reserves to prevent damage caused by unexpected gas shortage, the government of Greece stated. It is not right to represent the interval in gas delivery from Azerbaijan as cut of gas transportation, the State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said. Azerbaijan continues to deliver gas to Turkey. The gas transported to Greece belongs to Turkey, he stressed.
According to Mr. Sean McCormack, the situation once again proves that the European countries have to seek ways of gas delivery from diverse sources and routes. In this case, he underlines, the United States sees the main reason in Iran, being an unreliable partner.
Since January 1, Iran has downsized gas export to Turkey in 75 percent, and from January 7, it has completely suspended it. This, as earlier, took place in winter season when it requires increase of gas consumption. Business agreements with Iran, especially oil-gas investments, impede effectiveness of the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council. The US Department of State spokesman said the government of Turkey was warned on the question.
