Intelsat holds intensive talks with Azerbaijan on new areas of cooperation
Baku, June 12 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov has met with Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Intelsat (International Telecommunications Satellite Organization), the world’s largest international organization in the field of satellite communications, David McGlade, as well as with President and Chief Commercial Officer of Intelsat Stephen Spengler.
Minister Ali Abbasov informed McGlade and Spengler on the state program, reforms implemented in the country in connection with the establishment and development of the satellite industry, as well as commercial activity of the first telecommunications satellite Azerspace-1, increase in number of domestic and foreign TV channels broadcast via satellite.
Speaking about development of international cooperation in the space industry as well as future plans to strengthen potential of the space industry, the minister noted the work ongoing on the implementation of the next satellite projects, provided information on the work done in the direction of the launch of the second telecommunications satellite Azerspace-2 and on placement of the satellite in low earth orbit for Earth observation.
Intelsat leaders congratulated the country on joining the World Space Club and provided detailed information on the current activity of the organization, founded in 1964. It was noted that during its 50-year activity, Intelsat has provided satellite communications services for most countries of the world and today has more than 143 members. The organization which is interested in establishing new cooperation with Azerbaijan in this direction, holds intensive talks aimed at joint activities and cooperation with Azercosmos.
During the meeting, the sides held discussions and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest. The Intelsat officials also visited Azercosmos OJSC Main Ground Satellite Control Center.
