Members of Global South NGO Platform hold online meeting

On September 12, the Global South NGO Platform convened an online meeting to mark the United Nations-declared "South-South Cooperation Day." The event brought together representatives of more than 70 NGOs from Global South countries.
Ramil Iskandarli, Acting Secretary General of the NGO Platform, stressed that Global South countries should prioritize South-South Cooperation to play an active role in shaping a new, just world order. He noted that despite operating for only a few months, the Platform has already started gaining strong international recognition.
Dima Al-Khatib, Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), praised the establishment of the Global South NGO Platform in Baku on April 28, 2025, with the participation of NGOs from 116 countries, and described the initiative as highly valuable. She also expressed the UNOSSC’s readiness for close cooperation with the Platform.
During the meeting, participants gratefully acknowledged President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev’s remarks in support of the Platform, expressed in his address to the 13th Meeting of the Think Tank Forum of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia held in Baku.
The discussions underlined the importance of UN reforms, including ensuring representation of Global South countries among the permanent members of the UN Security Council. Strengthening solidarity among NGOs from Global South countries and promoting coordinated action were also highlighted.
The Platform was reaffirmed as the voice of civil society across the Global South, determined to ensure that their perspectives are reflected in international decision-making processes.
