“ROUNDTABLE” MEETING ON RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MP ASSISTANTS AND CIVIL SOCIETY HELD
Under the USAID-funded Parliamentary Program in Azerbaijan, a “roundtable” meeting on coordination of MP assistants with civil society was held Friday at the ABA-ROLI’s office.
Douglas Menarchik, Assistant Administrator of the USAID Bureau for Europe and Eurasia told of the aim of the program, development of parliamentarism and international experience.
The program started in mid-2007 focuses on capacity-building of the parliamentary staff, helping establish transparency mechanisms in the legislature, enhancing the capacity of the Parliament.
Scott Taylor, USAID Country Coordinator for Azerbaijan, Aybeniz Mammadova, expert for parliament-civil society relationship spoke at the event.
Chief of MM Administration’s department Imadeddin Abdulazizov said serious changes have occurred in the parliament’s work and public relations. He noted workshops for parliamentary aides were conducted in Shaki, Zagatala, Ganja and Lankaran-Astara region.
MP assistants will be provided with well-equipped offices.
Participants of the meeting heard reports on the history of Azerbaijani parliament, international experience, establishment of contacts between parliament and constituencies.
Azerbaijan Parliamentary Program has been implemented since February 2007 under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the USAID and Milli Majlis.
