Azerbaijan`s first lady Mehriban Aliyeva honored with Interpol`s memorial medal

Baku, November 22 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s first lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva has been presented with the memorial medal for contribution to creation of safer world by Secretary General of INTERPOL Ronald Noble at their meeting held here today.

Ronald Noble said Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva was the first recipient of the award.

The INTERPOL delegation was informed about the goal and activity of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

The delegation was told the main goal of the Foundation, established in the memory of the Azerbaijani people`s national leader, is to study and popularize prominent political figure Heydar Aliyev`s rich heritage, give an idea to the future generations about his large-scale activity to achieve Azerbaijan`s socio-economic, cultural progress, and assist projects promoting the country`s history and culture.

The delegation saw exhibits and photos taken from the archive of the great leader and reflecting various moments of his activity.

Ronald Noble signed the Foundation`s Guest Book.

Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva said Azerbaijan marks the 20th anniversary of restoration its independence.

The President of the Foundation underlined Azerbaijan gained great achievements during these years and has grown into the leader in the region.

She added the country was rapidly developing in all fields.

Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva specially noted Azerbaijan is the safe country with a low crime rate.

The first lady underscored Azerbaijan has become a member of INTERPOL in 1992.

She said the state and government bodies enjoy close cooperation with INTERPOL.

Mehriban Aliyeva spoke of the activity of the Foundation, adding the Foundation was created in 2004.

The first lady expressed hope “we can establish cooperation in the future as non-governmental organizations”.

She underlined the Heydar Aliyev Foundation cooperates with the UN, UNESCO, UNICEF and ISESCO.

Ronald Noble said Azerbaijan was the exemplary country in terms of security.

He suggested holding joint cultural events with Azerbaijan in the future.
