BAKU HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE “STRATEGIES FOR CASPIAN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”
The international conference “Strategies for Caspian sustainable development” began in Gulustan palace, in Baku, on October 4.
Addressing the meeting, Azerbaijan’s Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyngulu Bagirov read out the congratulatory letter of President Ilham Aliyev to the conference participants.
Minister underlined that the conference aimed at clarifying the reason of the Caspian Sea pollution, and attracting the international organizations and donor countries to this problem.
Mr. Bagirov noted that the large-scale projects for construction of the purification plants and installation of the sewer systems are being implemented in the country.
Minister emphasized that the Germany government’s support will give impulse to solution of the Caspian Sea problems.
Astrid Klug, Secretary of the State of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety noted that the conference would play an important role in protection of the Caspian basin.
Mr. Klug underlined that Germany is ready to share its experience with Azerbaijan in this sphere. Secretary of State emphasized that the littoral Caspian states are rapidly developing, and they have to bear responsibility for protection of the environment. The common structure for environment protection has to be created, said Mr. Klug.
The participants from Turkmenistan, Georgia, Turkey, Iran and the World Bank stressed the need to join efforts for development of the region.
After the break, Astrid Klug, Secretary of State of Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and Huseyngulu Bagirov, Azerbaijan’s Minister for Ecology and Natural Resources signed the memorandum of understanding.
The conference will wrap up on October 5.
