Germany`s Karsch and Reitz win gold in mixed team 10m air pistol
Baku, June 22, AZERTAC
Germany fired their way to the final gold medal of the Shooting competition at the Baku 2015 European Games, with star pair Monika Karsch and Christian Reitz winning the mixed team 10m air pistol at Baku Shooting Centre on Monday.
Greek duo Anna Korakaki and Konstantinos Malgarinos pulled back a 4-2 deficit to force a deciding single-shot round at 4-4 in the gold medal match, but Reitz, who also won the men's 25m rapid fire pistol final on Sunday, and Karsch, bronze medallist in the women's 25m pistol on Saturday, held their nerve.
Ekaterina Korshunova and Vladimir Gontcharov triumphed 5-4 for Russia in an equally tight bronze medal match against Spain's Sonia Franquet and Pablo Carrera.
"Normally rapid fire is my main discipline and mixed team is just on top, so two medals is the best result. It was a perfect end to the competition," Reitz said.
Karsch delayed her shot in the final round and scored 10.3 when finally pulling the trigger, the highest of the four competitors, and jumped for joy when she realised it was enough for gold.
"I was very happy with one medal and now I have two. Now that one is the colour gold I am so happy," Karsch said.
"I was thinking 'I will win the gold medal'. I was the last shooter as well but it was not a problem, I wanted to shoot a 10."
