Lukashenko, Yanukovych discuss Belarus-Ukraine cooperation
Baku, December 1 (AZERTAC). Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych held a bilateral meeting within the OSCE summit on 1 December to discuss the ways of expanding bilateral cooperation, according to BelTA.
According to Viktor Yanukovych, the two heads of state have had several meetings and telephone talks this year. “We are happy for our neighbor which economy and industry have been successfully developing. I believe that this is a result of many-year hard work,” the President of Ukraine said. In his words, Belarus and Ukraine, as neighbors and partners, have a lot of joint projects as well as interests in third countries. Viktor Yanukovych suggested discussing all the aforesaid issues in a meeting with the Belarusian colleague.
The Ukrainian head of state wished Alexander Lukashenko success at the upcoming elections: “The Ukrainians will be rooting for you as much as your friends in Belarus.”
For his part, President of Belarus said: “We do have enough problems of our own; however, these are somewhat different problems. We are trying to solve them, and I am sure we will solve them.”
“We have common interests, very big and profitable projects, which help sustain the economy and meet the interests of our people. And I am ready to discuss them,” Alexander Lukashenko said.
“I think that if everything runs smoothly, we can meet and discuss in detail and take decisions on these matters,” the Belarusian head of state said.
