2nd Annual Frankfurt Gas Forum wraps up
Frankfurt, December 13 (AZERTAC). The second Annual Frankfurt Gas Forum has today ended in Germany.
The presentation of this powerful platform that puts together world-known politicians, famous experts, major businessmen and high rank energy sector managers took place last year for the first time. The platform was then joined by the European Union Commissioner for Energy Mr. Gunther Oettinger. That was the time when the forum outlined its main goal, which was to encourage EU energy sector investments through discussions of topical issues associated with oil and gas production, transportation and marketing of hydrocarbons in the European markets. Today's forum outspreads the outlined thematic boundaries and aims to focus on additional issues, such as the implementation of the European doctrine of diversification of the natural gas delivery to the Old World.
First day discussions were mostly about the current problems and prospects of the Southern Gas Corridor and the issues related to the transportation of the natural gas from the deposits of Russia's Eastern Mediterranean to the EU. The topics included the choice of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline to deliver gas from Shah Daniz 2 to Europe, as well as the challenges now facing the Trans-Anatolian and the South Caucasus pipelines.
Second day discussions were primarily focused on discovery of the new deposits in the Eastern Mediterranean, geopolitical risks associated with and trading prospects for the offshore gas in the region, including the issue of feasibility of the liquefied gas exports. In addition, the participants discussed the so-called shale gas revolution in the U.S., which is already having an impact on the world energy market and global geopolitics respectively.
The Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan was acting as an academic partner to the current forum. The main speakers have been former U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mr. Matthew Bryza, Mr. Vladimir Socor (US), Mr. Konstantin Simonov (Russia), Mrs. Gina Cohen (Israel), Mr. Anthony Livanios (Germany), Mr. Daniel Stein (USA), Mr. Giovanni del Conte (Switzerland), Mr. John Roberts (UK) and others. Principal research fellow at SAM Ms. Gulmira Rzayeva also delivered her presentation at the forum. Ms. Rzayeva touched on the development in the European gas market, particularly on possible marketing opportunities of Azerbaijani gas. She stressed that the European gas market was experiencing rapid developments. According to the research fellow, starting from 2016, the amount of liquefied gas to enter the European market could affect gas prices.
