Argentine fans spark massive celebration despite Germany loss
Baku, July 15 (AZERTAC). Argentine fans gathered at the Obelisco monument in 9 de Julio avenue and other spots in Buenos Aires City to celebrate the Albiceleste's performance in the World Cup in spite of the defeat against the German side in the final match.
Hours before the game started, fans in Buenos Aires City streamed along the city's boulevards blowing vuvuzela horns and banging drums, while some even dressed up their pampered pooches in soccer strips tailor made for dogs.
In downtown Buenos Aires' San Martin park, a boisterous crowd was then stunned into silence by a Mario Goetze volley in extra-time which gave Germany a 1-0 win in the World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro.
At the final whistle, television pictures showed supporters across the city defiantly waving flags and applauding their team, with chants of "Argentina, Argentina," ringing out.
"It's another slap in the face. There is no more joy, but we came out second and were not shamed in Brazil," said 40-year-old Eduardo Manfredi.
Fans then gathered at the Obelisk in the centre of the city to keep cheering for the team.
Two Argentine fans were detained by police after engaging in a fist fight against German tourist that were celebrating the victory over the Albiceleste in the World Cup final today.
German fans gathered in the bar “La Muzza Inspiradora”, located in Callao street 680 in the Buenos Aires City barrio of Balvanera, to watch the game, and came across Argentine fans when they took their celebration to the street.
A Federal Police car arrived at the scene immediately after the fight started and detained the two Argentine fans.
German ambassador in Buenos Aires Bernhard Graf von Waldersee was also present at the venue, and had to be transported by another police car.
