AZERI SPEAKER MEETS CZECH COUNTERPART
Baku, 24 September (AZERTAC). Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament (Milli Majlis) Ogtay Asadov has met today visiting Czech counterpart Premysl Sobotka.
Asadov said Sobotka`s visit would contribute to boosting relationship between Azerbaijan and Czechia.
He praised the level of interparliamentary cooperation both in the bilateral and multilateral formats.
Asadov touched upon the role of Azerbaijan in ongoing regional projects in the South Caucasus region, stressing the country contributes to Europe`s energy security.
“Realization of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelines and new projects on diversification of energy routes is a vivid evidence of it,” he added.
Asadov also stressed the importance of memorandum on energy cooperation signed between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Asadov pointed out settlement of the dispute must be based on strict maintenance of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
He said Armenia does not honour documents adopted by international organizations demanding Armenia`s unconditional withdrawal from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
Asadov also thanked the Czech leadership for backing Azerbaijan`s “fair position” on the dispute.
On economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Poland, the Speaker praised the fact the volume of bilateral trade had been constantly increasing.
He also stressed the importance of using Czechia`s practice in integration into Euroatlantic structures.
For his part, Premysl Sobotka said his country was keen on cooperation with Azerbaijan. He underscored the necessity of interparliamentary ties in enhancing bilateral relationship.
Sobotka also praised Azerbaijan`s role in ensuring Europe`s energy security.
According to him, the two countries have great opportunities to expand economic cooperation even more. On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Sobotka said “we attach huge importance to the principles of territorial integrity and inviolability of borders”.
“The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is a very serious problem and must be settled peacefully and on the basis of principles of international law. Czechia supports Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and this policy will not change”.
