BAKU HOST MEETING OF INTERNATIONAL FRONTIER CONFERENCE WORKING GROUP
The International Frontier Conference working group consisting of the heads of frontier services of participating countries gathered for its regular meeting at Khazri Hotel in Baku on Tuesday.
The meeting is attended by representatives of frontier services from USA, Germany, Belarus, UK, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Switzerland, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine, as well as members of the International Organization for Migration, FRONTEX agency and Boderpol.
At the two-day event, its participants will discuss the theory and practice of the integrated border management, agenda for the 16th general assembly of the International Frontier Conference, activities of the conference’s working groups and other issues.
At the opening ceremony, representatives of Azerbaijan including Lieutenant-General Elchin Guliyev, Chief of the State Frontier Service, Lieutenant-General Vahid Aliyev, Assistant to the President for Defense Affairs, and Araz Azimov, Deputy Foreign Minister spoke of Azerbaijan’s achievements, the large-scale economic projects initiated and led by the country in the region, and its enhancing international prestige.
They noted that the State Frontier Service of Azerbaijan had established mutually fruitful cooperation with frontier services of quite a number of countries across the world, and international organizations. It was especially stressed that taking into account the country’s strategic geopolitical location along the Heydar Aliyev Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, Silk Road and other international transport corridors, the leadership of Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to development of its border security system.
Chairman of the International Frontier Conference Lieutenant-General Josef Bendeka stressed the great necessity of cooperation among frontier services for common security, and called for expansion of the existing relations.
