BAKU HOSTS 11TH TRAINING COURSES OF COMPREHENSIVE NUCLEAR-BAN-TREATY ORGANIZATION
Minister Kamaladdin Heydarov said in his opening remarks that conducting in Baku of the training courses joined by over 40 representatives from 20 countries, demonstrates the enhancing international prestige of Azerbaijan.
He pointed out that CTBTO has showed particular interest in Azerbaijan and provided support in organizing and conducting several international events in the country.
The Minister said the CTBTO aims to protect population and environment from aftermath of nuclear tests, and closely cooperate in this field with a number of states and international organizations. He added that Azerbaijan is actively involved in the process of strengthening the global nuclear safety regime, and described this fact as part of the President Ilham Aliyev’s foreign policy.
Boris Kvok, Director of the CTBTO On-Site Inspection Division and Mordechai Melamud, Chief of the CTBTO Operations and Training Section of the On-Site Inspection Division informed the audience that the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 September 1996, and was signed by 44 states. Currently the organization has 150 members including Azerbaijan.
They pointed out that the Baku training courses are aimed at training qualified personnel. Since 2005, the courses have been taken by 340 trainees from 69 countries of the world.
The event was also attended by Minister of Health Ogtay Shiraliyev and Chief of the State Frontier Service Elchin Guliyev.
The training courses will last till October 29.
