Deputy FM: Azerbaijan’s fair approach and anticolonial position serve Africa’s interests
Baku, May 14, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan has already held political consultations with Ethiopia, Rwanda, Somalia, Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau during the first five months of this year, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev at an expanded meeting of the Milli Majlis Committee on Foreign Relations and Interparliamentary Affairs titled “Rise of the Global South and the West: Role of Azerbaijan, New Opportunities for Cooperation and Development” held on Wednesday.
Rafiyev noted that political consultations with Nigeria, Zimbabwe, the Republic of South Africa, and the Republic of the Congo are also scheduled to take place before the end of the year, with active progress being made in this direction.
According to the deputy minister, this growing engagement reflects the post-COP realities and the increasing interest of African countries in Azerbaijan. He emphasized that Azerbaijan’s balanced and principled approach to the Global South, the country’s fair stance, and President Ilham Aliyev’s strong position on the fight against colonialism are central to this interest.
He further highlighted that several African leaders have already visited Azerbaijan, and others are expected to do so in the near future. Rafiyev underscored that Azerbaijan is pursuing a systematic approach in its relations with African countries.
