FIFA investigate €1.2m commission to intermediary in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil deal
Baku, May 30, AZERTAC
Globo reports that FIFA have opened an investigation into a €1.2m payment to intermediary Diego Fernandes, linked to the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as Brazil's head coach, according to Tribuna.com.
The governing body questioned Fernandes' role in the deal, as he is currently unlicensed, and raised the issue with the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), citing a possible violation of FIFA’s Football Agent Regulations.
“It appears that Mr Diego Fernandes, currently unlicensed, acted as a Football Agent for the CBF and Mr Ancelotti,” FIFA wrote. The organisation has asked the CBF for Fernandes’ contact details, related communications, proof of payments, and any contracts involving him.
The CBF responded by stating that the agreement with Ancelotti was handled by a previous administration and is now being reviewed internally.
Fernandes said he acted as a consultant due to time constraints and plans to register as an agent in order to receive the “fair value” for his work.
The €1.2m fee is written into Ancelotti’s contract and remains valid, though Fernandes’ prominent involvement during negotiations reportedly caused discomfort within the CBF. His access to the national team will now be restricted under the new leadership.
