Baku, October 29, AZERTAC
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Tuesday said his Government was “ready to contribute” to the economic growth of Georgia, in comments in a joint briefing with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the Government Administration in Tbilisi, Agenda.ge reported.
“We appointed the Hungarian airline [Wizz Air] in order to promote the economy of Georgia. We are ready to contribute to the economic growth of the country and to engage in the development of tourism and water resources”, Orbán said.
“It is a great honour for me to work together within the largest project [of the Black Sea submarine cable]. This is the largest project for the European Union, as it involves supplying green electricity from the Caucasus region to Europe - this is a mega-project. I would like to extend my gratitude to the Prime Minister of Georgia and his Government for their active role in implementing this project”, he continued.
“Azerbaijan is also playing a significant role in this effort. Azerbaijan, Romania, and Hungary are collaborating on this initiative, and we also have a joint enterprise, which is crucial for our progress. I hope this will become one of the most successful projects within the EU”, Orbán added.
The four countries signed the deal for the project in 2022 and signed an agreement in Bucharest to establish a joint venture for the purpose in September.
The document establishes the Green Energy Corridor Power Company, to be based in Bucharest, and was signed as part of the eighth ministerial session on the project in the presence of ministers from the four participating nations.
The Prime Minister noted Hungary and Georgia would develop relations in a “strategic direction”.
In addition to economic initiatives, Orbán also announced Hungary’s annual funding for the education of Georgian students. He revealed Hungary was awarding scholarships to 80 Georgian students each year, reflecting their “strong interest” in pursuing studies in Hungarian universities.
