INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES INSTITUTE OPENS INTERNET CENTER
The red ribbon symbolizing opening of the center was cut by NATO Deputy Secretary General Jean Fournet and ANAS president, Academician Mahmud Karimov. Director of the IT Institute, AzRENA executive director, doctor of technical sciences Rasim Aliguliyev familiarized the guests with the center.
ANAS president Mahmud Karimov said that the basis of partnership with NATO was laid by nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev and this partnership is successfully continued by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Azerbaijan has participated in various NATO events for 10 years. Azerbaijan takes its special place in the new geostrategic policy of the alliance. NATO takes some measures towards maintenance of political and military stability in the Southern Caucasus. One of the important steps in this direction was the commencement of the project “Virtual Silk Highway” /VSH/. Internet center opens within the frameworks of this project.
Rasim Aliguliyev told of the work done within the frameworks of the VSH project. He said that the project implies connection to Internet through the up-to-date satellite technology of three South Caucasian states /Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia/ and five central-Asian /Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrghizstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan/. To achieve goals each state being provided with the ground-based satellite antenna VSAT and network equipment will link to the NATO Network Operating Center located in Hamburg, Germany. At present, all the ANAS institutes, Ministry of Education, Supreme Examination Commission, Baku State University, State Economic University, Technical University, University of Architecture and Construction, University of Languages connected to internet through AzRENA. AzRENA specialists partook in international seminars held in Budapest, Tashkent, etc. AzRENA specialist recently returned from Istanbul sitting of VSH project boards. A symposium to discuss modern education technologies of remote control has been recently initiated by the AzRENA and the University of Indiana. It is planned to conduct a seminar in Baku on remote education initiated by the NATO. A seminar of NATO summer school will also be held during the seminar. In the course of the event, videoconference with Brussels will be conducted.
Rasim Aliguliyev also stressed the existing difficulties and problems and expressed confidence that NATO deputy secretary general will help overcome them.
The opening ceremony was addressed by Jean Fournet, Minister of Communication and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan Republic, AzRENA president, academician Ali Abbasov.
