Leading Swedish media outlets, including “Dagens Nyheter”, “Svenska Dagbladet”, “Aftonbladet”, “SVT Nyheter”, “Omni”, and “Expressen”, have issued reports highlighting the meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, which resulted in the signing of the Joint Declaration.
According to “Svenska Dagbladet”, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed to stop fighting permanently, develop trade and tourism, establish diplomatic relations, and respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The report drew particular attention to the establishment of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), aimed at connecting Azerbaijan’s mainland with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
“Aftonbladet” emphasized that the U.S. President had lifted military restrictions on both countries and had also waived Section 907 of the law passed by Congress in 1992, which had prevented American aid to Azerbaijan. The article also noted that both Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders had jointly nominated the U.S. President for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Omni reported that the European Union and the European Commission had both expressed gratitude to the U.S. for securing the signing of the historic Declaration. The article also described Azerbaijan as Europe’s major gas supplier.
