Baku, August 4 (AZERTAC).Nine people were killed and one injured in a helicopter crash Wednesday in Indonesia, one of the mining companies that chartered the plane has confirmed.

Eight passengers -- two Australians, two South Africans and four Indonesians -- and two Indonesian crewmembers were aboard the aircraft when it crashed near Manado, on the northern tip of the island of Sulawesi, the mining company said.

The lone survivor was an Indonesian national, who is in critical condition.

Newcrest said the survivor`s name "cannot yet be provided." The company did not indicate whether he was one of the passengers or crew.

The helicopter was bound for a mine 200 miles away on Halmahera island, according to a press release from Newcrest Mining Ltd.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash, the company said.

The craft was reported missing at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday (2:30 a.m. ET), and an extensive search by air and land culminated in the discovery of the helicopter early Thursday morning, Newcrest Mining said in the news release.

The helicopter was operated by PT Nyaman Air and chartered by PT Nusa Halmahera Minerals, a joint venture between Newcrest Mining and PT Aneka Tambang, the news release said.
