AZERBAIJAN, BULGARIA EXPLORE SECURITY COOPERATION PROSPECTS
Baku, 28 October (AZERTAC). National Security Minister of Azerbaijan Eldar Mahmudov visited Sofia where he met Director of Bulgaria`s National Intelligence Service Kircho Kirov. They discussed prospects for boosting the bilateral security cooperation. The two agreed to intensify the exchange of information and experience between the Azerbaijani and Bulgarian security bodies.
Kirov underlined the importance of the Azeri minister`s trip, expressing confidence it will “make a contribution to boosting our cooperation”.
The Bulgarian intelligence chief recalled his visit to Baku this April, describing it as “a success”.
“I joined celebratory events marking the 90th anniversary of Azerbaijan`s security bodies. I also had meetings with the country`s officials, and was particularly impressed by a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev.”
Mahmudov spoke of what his country had been doing to ensure security, in particular fight against international terrorism, illegal drug trade, illegal migration and transnational organized crime.
The Azeri minister touched upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, describing it as what poses “a serious threat not only to the South Caucasus region, but to the entire Europe”.
As part of his Sofia visit, Mahmudov also had meetings with Vice-President Angel Marin and deputy Premier and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov on prospects for the Azerbaijan-Bulgaria relations.
